Prominent ear correction (otoplasty) is a surgical procedure aimed at repositioning the ears closer to the head to achieve a natural appearance.
Ears that stick out noticeably forward or to the side can be a source of aesthetic concern. This condition may lead to a loss of self-confidence in both children and adults. With prominent ear correction, the ears are reshaped to create a more harmonious look with the facial structure.
The operation is usually performed under local anesthesia and takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours. A small incision is made behind the ear, cartilage is reshaped, and the ear is brought closer to the head. The procedure is planned to leave no visible scars and to provide a natural result.
After the procedure, a special bandage is applied to the ears and recommended to be worn for a few days. Returning to daily activities is possible within the first 3 to 5 days. Mild swelling or bruising may occur post-surgery but is temporary.
Permanent results usually become apparent within 2 to 3 weeks. The ears achieve better harmony with the head, significantly reducing aesthetic concerns. Prominent ear correction can be safely performed in children from the age of 5 to 6 and can be applied at any age in adults.
